The curriculum at Dinting Church of England VA Primary School is rich, relevant and challenging. We ensure that children are taught the basic skills of reading, writing, maths and computing thoroughly and in depth using a structured teaching programme that meets the need of all learners.

We also teach subjects thematically through exciting topics giving children real life experiences. History, geography, RE and Design Technology give children opportunities to think widely and deeply and to apply their research, comprehension, writing and mathematical skills. Art, music, dance and PE enable our children to express themselves through different media. As a Church of England School we aim to ensure Christian values are built into the ethos and teaching across the whole curriculum, promoting attitudes of mutual respect and responsibility. Through our specialist Modern foreign language teaching, ECO activities, forest schools and Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural education we prepare our children to be successful citizens in modern Britain.

Our curriculum plan is attached (KS2 plan for 2016-2017) and more details of our approaches to teaching the different curriculum areas can be found in our separate subject policies which are available on request from school.

At Dinting C of E VA Primary, reading and literacy skills are given high priority in our curriculum. We aim to provide children with a range of skills in order to support their development in becoming competent readers who have a natural love of books. Schools approaches to Reading and Phonics is attached.
